Notre Dame checkerboard flooring

Notre Dame checkerboard flooring
A tribute and a reminder of Notre Dame resurrection
Inside the cathedral , the very last work was to install a brand new flooring
as close as possible of the the damaged one.
The Notre Dame resurrection was a worldwide project.
Donations came from 150 countries.
If the 5 French wealthiest donators gave a good chunk,
the American donators were right after.
Were selected La Pierre Bleue Belge and La Pierre de Bonneuil.
"For the stonework, scientists and engineers studied blocks recovered from the cathedral and identified suitable limestone quarries to provide replacements. Over 45,000 cubic feet of stone were sourced from quarries in the Oise and Aisne areas, north of Paris." (NY Times 12/7/24)
So the new Notre Dame checkerboard floor is made of
a mix of a French stone and a Belgian one.
"La roche dure de Bonneuil participe largement à la reconstruction de
la cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris." (Courrier Picard)
"Les visiteurs de Notre-Dame de Paris
fouleront de la pierre bleue belge." (La Libre)
Old fashion installation : soft mortar and lime setting.
We have the exclusivity of the Belgian stone and the French one
with the same finish and the same size (60x60x2cm or 24x24x3/4’’).
